The short answer Restaurant POS software is the system a restaurant bills on, sends orders to the kitchen from and closes the day with. CountStand is one such system for India: the till and the floor plan, a captain’s view on the phone, the kitchen display, KOT and bill printing on network thermal printers, stock with recipes and purchase orders, and GST to the paisa with each month’s GSTR-1 ready as a file. Single has all of it at ₹2,999 a month, or ₹2,549 paid yearly.

03In detail

What should restaurant POS software do in India?

Bill fast, print a bill the GST law accepts, and get each dish to the right station. Keep taking orders when the internet drops. Then, at night, close the day so that the drawer, the payments and the tax agree. Everything else is built on those jobs.

Two things decide most of it here: the bill and the connection. A tax invoice has particulars it must carry under Rule 46 of the CGST Rules, and restaurant broadband is not always there. CountStand checks the first before it prints, and treats the second as normal: the till queues what it cannot send and sends it, in order and once, when the line returns.

What does the system run on?

Chrome on the counter computer or a laptop. Staff sign in once and switch with a 4 to 6 digit PIN. The captain uses a phone, and the kitchen display runs in a browser on a tablet or a TV. Bills and KOTs print on thermal printers on your network, 80 mm or 58 mm, through a small print agent on the counter computer. USB and Bluetooth printers are not supported.

What is not in CountStand yet?

  • Swiggy and Zomato orders are not open at launch. CountStand covers dine-in and takeaway today.
  • Online payments through CountStand are not open at launch. UPI is paid to your own account through the QR on the bill.
  • E-invoicing with an IRN, for business bills, is not in this version.
  • English only, for dish names, bills and every screen.
