The migration playbook

Switching from Petpooja, without the drama

Free migration, parallel-run week, rollback plan. The switch is a process, not a leap.

The short answer

Switching POS mid-operation is safe if you sequence it: export your Petpooja data (menu, items, customer list) before notice; let CountStand migrate it free; run both systems in parallel for a week including one full weekend rush; then go live with a rollback window. Total owner effort is a few hours across two weeks, and billing never stops once.

Step 1, Export everything while you’re still a customer

Before giving notice, export from Petpooja: your full menu with prices and taxes, item/category structure, customer data, and 12 months of sales reports (you’ll want the baselines). Check your contract’s notice period and data-retention terms. This is good hygiene with any vendor, your data is yours; collect it while relations are warm.

Step 2, Free migration into CountStand

Send the exports (or even menu photos) on WhatsApp; the CountStand team loads your menu, taxes, tables and customer list, free, usually same-day. Your hardware almost certainly carries over: Android tablets, iPads, PCs and standard 58/80mm thermal printers all work, so the "new POS" arrives as a browser login, not a hardware bill.

Step 3, The parallel-run week (the part everyone skips)

Run both systems for one week: CountStand as primary at one counter or one daypart, Petpooja still live as the safety net. Train staff in the quiet afternoon; stress-test through one full weekend rush; reconcile both systems’ day-close nightly. This single week is why switches fail or succeed, it converts the unknown into muscle memory before anything is at stake.

  • Day 1–2: menu spot-check (100% of items, prices, taxes), printer mapping, staff logins with roles.
  • Day 3–4: live orders on CountStand at off-peak; KOT flow, running tables, day-close tie-out.
  • Day 5–7: full weekend on CountStand primary; Petpooja standby; nightly reconciliation of totals.

Step 4, Go live, keep the rollback window

Monday after a clean weekend: CountStand becomes the system of record; keep the old subscription through its notice period as a rollback option nobody expects to use. Cancel at the natural end. From that point the AI has a week of your data and the briefings start getting specific, most owners report the daily WhatsApp brief becomes the habit within the first fortnight.

03 / Questions

Asked by owners like you

Will I lose data switching from Petpooja?

Not if you export first: menu, customers and historical reports come out before notice, and CountStand loads them free. Historical transactions stay in your exported reports as your permanent record.

Do I need new hardware to switch?

Almost never, CountStand runs in the browser on the Android tablets/iPads/PCs you have and prints to standard ESC/POS thermal printers. The switch ships as a login, not a shipment.

How long does the whole switch take?

Calendar: about two weeks including the parallel-run week and a clean weekend test. Owner effort inside that: a few hours. Billing downtime if sequenced properly: zero.

What if my staff resist the new system?

Involve the fastest cashier in the parallel week and let them race the two systems, speed converts sceptics. CountStand’s counter flow needs ~3 taps for common orders, and staff logins keep roles/permissions familiar from day one.
