Zomato & Swiggy commission calculator
The number nobody computes: what the apps really take per month, and what going 20% direct gives back.
Zomato and Swiggy charge 18–28% base commission, but the real deduction is higher: add ads and co-funded discounts, ~1.8% payment gateway, and 18% GST on those services, and most restaurants surrender 25–35% of order value. This calculator turns your own numbers into the effective percentage, the monthly rupee leak, and the savings from shifting even 20% of orders to a 0% direct channel.
Model: base commission + ads/discount spend + ~1.8% payment gateway, with 18% GST applied on those platform services. Platform fees (₹17.58/order, 2026) are typically charged to the customer, not you, but they suppress order volume at the margin. Actual contracts vary; read yours. CountStand's WhatsApp/QR storefront takes direct orders at 0% commission.
Where does the money go on a Zomato or Swiggy order?
Start with a ₹500 order. Base commission at 24% takes ₹120. The discount you co-funded, say 20% of a ₹100 offer, takes another ₹20. Payment gateway at ~1.8% on the gross: ₹9. Then 18% GST applies to those platform services: roughly ₹27 more. You receive about ₹324, an effective deduction near 35%, not the 24% in the contract.
None of this is hidden; it is just spread across four line items on a weekly payout statement that few owners reconcile line by line. The effective percentage, total deductions ÷ gross order value, is the only number that tells the truth, and it is the one this calculator computes.
How much do aggregator commissions cost per month?
Forty app orders a day at a ₹380 average is ₹4.56 lakh of monthly gross. At a 30% effective deduction, ₹1.37 lakh leaves every month, ₹16.4 lakh a year, roughly the all-in cost of one full kitchen team.
The point is not that aggregators are villains, they deliver discovery and logistics you would otherwise buy separately. The point is that the effective rate is a managed number: volume-based renegotiation, turning off always-on ads, and auditing co-funded discounts routinely claw back 3–6 points without losing a single order.
How much does shifting orders to direct save?
Your repeat customers already know you; they do not need discovery, they need a frictionless reorder path. A WhatsApp or QR direct channel at 0% commission converts exactly those orders. Shifting just 20% of the volume above direct saves about ₹27,000 a month at the same order count.
The playbook that works: an insert in every app order ("order direct next time, here is ₹50 off"), a WhatsApp catalogue that remembers the last order, and delivery via your own rider or a per-drop logistics API for the 2–3 km radius that covers most regulars. ONDC (3–5% commission) sits between the two extremes for incremental reach.

How much commission do Zomato and Swiggy take in 2026?
Base commission runs 18–28% (Zomato) and 17–25% (Swiggy) depending on your contract and volume, before ads, ~1.8% payment gateway charges and 18% GST on platform services. Effective all-in deductions of 25–35% are typical. High-volume outlets (50+ orders/day) can negotiate 3–5 points lower.
Who pays the ₹17.58 platform fee?
The customer, it is added to their bill, not deducted from yours. It still matters to you: it raises the delivered price of your food and suppresses order volume at the margin, which is one more reason to build a cheaper direct channel for regulars.
How do restaurants reduce aggregator commission?
Three lanes that work: negotiate using volume and multi-outlet leverage; list on ONDC where commissions run 3–5%; and convert repeat customers to direct WhatsApp/QR ordering at 0%, the full playbook is in our commission guide.
Is this calculator accurate for my contract?
It is an honest model, not your invoice: contracts vary by city, category and negotiation. Put your actual commission and ads percentages in and it will be close; then check a real weekly payout statement against it.
